Spring Blossoms
"Break open a cherry tree and there are no flowers, but the spring breeze brings forth myriad blossoms".
-Ikkyu Sojun-
The symbolism of the cherry blossom began in Japan and go back hundreds of years.
In that country, the cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It is a reminder that life is incredibly beautiful but also tragically short.
Blooming in the hundreds, The flowers open only for a handful days each year, gently unfold and reaching their peak as tiny, delicately-colored blossoms. They die shortly after, detaching their stems and billowing out into the wind in gorgeous clouds of petals that clothes the ground in white and pink.
Most of us look at an orchard and see a blanket of beautiful flowers. To the untrained eye it can be hard to differentiate the blooms of apricots from those of an apple or cherry. The apricot tree distinguishes itself from the rest of the cherry family with glossy, heart-shaped foliage.
In China apricots represent female elegance, perhaps because the large seed is ovoid shaped like the eyes of an Oriental beauty
People have loved magnolias for thousands of years, their large and beautiful flowers are associated with nobility, perserverance, dignity and a love of nature.
There seem to be as many symbol interpretations about magnolias as there are people who love them. In China they were thought to be the perfect symbols of womanly beauty and gentleness.
Camelia roses grow wild in China and during the early spring cover entire fields with they wonderful colours.
They have a lovely symbolism, representing the union between two lovers. The delicately layered petals represent the woman, and the calyx (the green leafy part of the stem that holds the petals together),the man who protects her. The two components are joined together, even after death.
Spring is the time of the year when Nature is waking up, it is the symbol of renewal , growth and joy! The promise that everything can begin again!
Nature is celebrating by offering us wonderful blossoms, the air seems fresher and the spring fever beats the hearts happy that the long sunny days are on their way back!
