Rod Vassstudied fine art in Newcastle and Sunderland, then worked as an archaeological artist at Newcastle university. he moved to London to pursue a career in art. He exhibited and sold paintings and created album sleeve art, posters, product design, t-shirt designs, and designed for videos and photography for a variety of music business clients.


Rod established himself as an illustrator and designer, represented in London and New York, specialising in advertising, publishing and products. He also created small-and large-scale sculptures for holograms (including a life size Michelin man) and designs for retail display as well as co creating (as Imagineering) costumes and armour for the BBC, Doctor Who, Shakespeare, Black Adder and many others.


Rod designed Thunderbirds and the World of Gerry Anderson Exhibition. Working with Maria Keane, he also created illustrations and concepts for many licensed characters including Warner Bros, Disney, Marvel and DC. He established Armordillo ltd. with Michaela Elliott-Vass, specialising in design and construction for film tv and other creative industries. They have a sister company Von Vass originals creating laser cut card products.
